Description: The Community Scholarship Program supports students with a desire to practice health care in their hometowns. Recipients commit to providing primary care to their home communities upon completion of their health professions training. Through a Federal-State-Local partnership, states provide grants to community organizations located in designated health professional shortage areas. Community organizations use these funds to provide scholarships to local health professions students. To be eligible, you must be a resident of the Federal Health Professional Shortage Area (HPSA) where the community organization is located; be enrolled, or accepted for enrollment, as a full-time student in an approved health professions program; agree to maintain an acceptable level of academic standing in the school/program; agree to meet educational and licensure requirements; and agree to return to the community to provide primary health care for a minimum of two years as a physician, nurse practitioner, physician assistant or certified nurse-midwife. Acceptable primary care specialties include family medicine, general internal medicine, general pediatrics, obstetrics/gynecology. Sponsored by the National Health Service Corps.
