Sponsoring Agency: Eye Research Fellowships

Category: Research Fellowship/Scholarship

Description: This program was devised to allow gifted students to take a year off from medical school studies (prior to 3rd or 4th year) and devote that time in the pursuit of a research project within an RPB Grantee department of ophthalmology. While it is hoped that department heads will be able to attract talented students, it is neither intended that the program become a vehicle to assure the candidate a future ophthalmological residency, nor that the fellowship be utilized in an exploitive sense to simply provide the services of a technician. The fellowship will be funded for one year at $20,000, a portion of which should be utilized to help finance the recipient's eye research activities. RPB support must remain free of institutional overhead. Application Process: The Chairman of the Ophthalmology Department must apply for the award on behalf of the student. Candidate must be pre-3rd or 4th year of medical school. Mentor must be a full time faculty member in the applicant ophthalmology department. Guidelines and application forms must be requested by RPB Unrestricted or Challenge Grantee chairs. Sponsored by Research to Prevent Blindness. Additional keywords: eye, vision, sight, blindness.
