Outside OpportunitiesDetailsSponsoring Agency: HHMI Research Training FellowshipCategory: Research Fellowship/Scholarship Description: The program encourages the development of physician scientists through the training of medical students in fundamental research. Fellows participate in a year of intensive research on basic biological processes or disease mechanisms at nonprofit institutions within the United States. The program provides a $16,000 stipend as well as research and institutional allowances. Near the end of their year of research, fellows may apply for continued fellowships for either a second year of research or for up to two years of support while completing their studies toward the medical degree. The program is open to both U.S. citizens and non-U.S. citizens who are enrolled in U.S. medical schools, but students must not have completed their M.D. or D.O. at the time of application and may not receive their degree during the term of the fellowship. Medical students enrolled in M.D./Ph.D. programs or those who have completed a Ph.D. in a biological science are not eligible. Sponsored by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute.
