AAFP Conditions A to Z - (STAT!Ref)
Common conditions, treatments and health tips can be browsed alphabetically or searched on the STAT!Ref platform. Written, reviewed and regularly updated by the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP).

CareNotes System - (MICROMEDEX)
A database of handouts on an extensive number of health topics (CareNotes) and close to 1,000 frequently prescribed drugs (DrugNotes). All CareNotes and DrugNotes documents are available in English and Spanish and are written at a 6th to 8th grade level. Handouts may be customized with special instructions and contact information.

Genetics Home Reference
The National Library of Medicine's web site for consumer information about genetic conditions and the genes or chromosomes related to those conditions. Each Genetic Condition Summary provides a concise definition of a genetic condition and a brief description of signs and symptoms. The genetic cause of the condition, its frequency, and pattern of inheritance are also explained.

MedlinePlus
MedlinePlus, a consumer health information portal from the National Library of Medicine (NLM), provides links to information on over 740 health topics. Links are selected from content by the NLM, the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and other government agencies and health-related organizations. It also provides lists of hospitals and physicians, a medical encyclopedia, a medical dictionary, health information in Spanish, information on prescription and nonprescription drugs, health news, and links to clinical trials.

NLM Gateway - (Searches multiple NLM databases)
The NLM Gateway provides a single search interface for multiple NLM resources, including MEDLINE/PubMed, the NLM Catalog, a variety of consumer health and toxicology resources, OMIM, and more. It also includes abstracts from HIV/AIDS, Health Services Research, and Space Life Sciences meetings.

Patient Care Modules - (Lexi-Comp ONLINE; Available on-campus only)
A database of patient teaching handouts. Adult-PALS covers adult medications; Pediatric-PALS, written for the parent or guardian, covers pediatric medications; and Health-PALS offers patient advisory leaflets on diseases, conditions, and procedures. According to the publisher, these Patient Care Modules are written at a 5th - 6th grade reading level, and are available in up to 18 different languages. Users may customize handouts with special instructions and contact information. Select the "Patient Care" button from the Lexi-Comp ONLINE homepage to open the Patient Care Module homepage.

Patient Education - (MD Consult)
A database of handouts on health topics and medications from the American Academy of Family Physicians, DynoMed, McKesson Clinical Reference Systems, and Well-Connected. MD Consult states that most are written at a 6th- to 8th-grade reading level and are 1 to 2 pages in length. Spanish language versions are provided for about 30% of topics. Free registration allows clinicians to customize handouts with special instructions and contact information.

Patient Education Topics - (eMedicine)
Contains comprehensive condition and treatment information for an extensive number of health topics. Advanced vocabulary may make these handouts more appropriate for better educated readers, and excellent images are included with many topics. "Printer friendly version" does not remove all Web formatting, and handouts may be lengthy.

Patient Information - (UpToDate; Available on-campus only)
Contains comprehensive condition and treatment information for an extensive number of health topics and medications. Advanced vocabulary may make these handouts more appropriate for better educated readers. To access Patient Information in UpToDate, enter "Patient Information" as a search term in the main search page and click Go.

PDQ - NCI's Comprehensive Cancer Database
PDQ (Physician Data Query) is NCI's comprehensive cancer database. It contains regularly updated, peer-reviewed summaries on cancer treatment, screening, prevention, genetics, and supportive care; a registry of approximately 1,800 open and 12,000 closed cancer clinical trials from around the world; and directories of physicians, professionals who provide genetics services, and organizations that provide cancer care. The PDQ adult treatment summaries are also available in patient versions, written in easy-to-understand, non-technical language.
