About 45 percent of the focus is on agriculture. Includes some full text. Cancer Literature through PubMed - (Select Limits and choose Cancer subset) MEDLINE is the National Library of Medicine's premier bibliographic database covering the fields of medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, and the preclinical sciences. To restrict searches to cancer-related topics, first select Limits, then choose the Cancer Subset. ChemIDplus A freely available database of chemical records, including many chemical structures, from the National Library of Medicine (NLM). The ChemIDplus Lite version of this database allows simplified Name and CAS Registry Number searching only. ChemIDplus Advanced offers additional search capabilities such as chemical structure and biological/chemical property searching. Chemical records link to many additional biomedical resources at NLM and on the Internet. CHEMnetBASE CHEMnetBASE is an integrated online collection of major chemistry reference works published by Chapman & Hall/CRC, including the Combined Chemical Dictionary, The Handbook of Chemistry & Physics, Polymers: A Property Database, and Properties of Organic Compounds. CHEMnetBASE provides full-text, data, illustrations, as well as interactive tables, powerful search capabilities (including structure searching) and regular updates. ClinicalTrials.gov ClinicalTrials.gov is a registry of federally and privately supported clinical trials conducted in the United States and around the world. ClinicalTrials.gov provides information about a trial's purpose, who may participate, locations, and phone numbers for more details. CogNet CogNet is a collection of searchable electronic texts for the cognitive and brain sciences. The Library contains works from the MIT Press, as well as resources from other publishers, professional associations, institutions, and individuals who are willing to share public access to online work. Over 400 fully searchable books from MIT press are available. Additional content includes several journals, conference materials, career information and discussion forums. Cold Spring Harbor Protocols Cold Spring Harbor Protocols is an interactive source of new and classic research techniques. The database is fully searchable by keyword and subject. Current Protocols Current Protocols in Bioinformatics, Cell Biology, Cytometry, Human Genetics, Immunology, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Molecular Biology, Neuroscience, Nucleic Acid Chemistry, Protein Science, and Toxicology provides researchers with tested laboratory procedures. Updated quarterly for each subject, all text in the Current Protocols database (including words in image captions and tables) is fully indexed for searching. Individual titles can be selected through the library's list of e-journals. Encyclopedia of Life Sciences According to its publishers, the Encyclopedia of Life Sciences is the most ambitious reference work ever to be published in the biological sciences. Topics covered include: biochemistry, cell biology, clinical medicine, developmental biology, ecology, evolution and diversity of life, functional and comparative morphology, genetics and molecular biology, immunology, microbiology and virology, neuroscience, plant science, science and society, and structural biology. Entrez Global Query The Entrez Global Query database search engine provides cross-database searching and access to over two dozen Entrez databases from the National Center of Biotechnology Information (NCBI). It includes literature databases (PubMed, OMIM and OMIA); sequence databases (Nucleotide, Protein, Genome, Structure, and SNPs); and additional taxonomic, substance and molecular biology databases (Taxonomy, Gene, UniGene, HomoloGene, Conserved Domains, 3D Domains, UniSTS, PopSet, GEO Profiles, GEO Datasets, PubChem, Cancer Chromosomes and Probe). Faculty of 1000 Biology Faculty of 1000 is a literature awareness tool that highlights and reviews the most interesting papers published in the biological sciences, based on the recommendations of a selected faculty of more than 2,300 selected leading researchers. Google Scholar - (How to Connect to Full Text with Google Scholar) Google Scholar is a version of Google that enables you to search for peer-reviewed papers, theses, books, preprints, abstracts, and technical reports from broad areas of research. Use Google Scholar to find articles from a wide variety of academic publishers, professional societies, preprint repositories and universities, as well as scholarly articles available across the web. Identify papers that cite an article of interest in by following its "Cited by" link. Human Gene Mutation Database (HGMD) The Human Gene Mutation Database (HGMD) is a comprehensive core collection of published germline mutations in nuclear genes that underlie or are associated with human inherited disease. Search by gene, mutation, disease and more to find lists of published mutations organized by type (missense, splicing, regulatory, etc.) with full citation information for their earliest literature references. This version - HGMD Professional - contains more up-to-date data and features than the public version available at www.hgmd.cf.ac.uk/. International Cancer Research Portfolio (ICRP) The International Cancer Research Portfolio, or ICRP, represents a database of information on cancer research awards of the cancer funding organizations that comprise the Common Scientific Outline (CSO) Partners. Created as a means for CSO Partner organizations to share information about current and ongoing cancer research, the ICRP public web site allows the public at-large to view and browse information about research supported by cancer funding organizations in the United States (US) and the United Kingdom (UK). Journal Citation Reports - (Search for Impact Factors) Journal Citation Reports (JCR) is a unique tool published by the Institute for Scientific Information. It delivers quantifiable statistical data (impact factors) that provides a systematic, objective way to determine the relative importance of journals within their subject categories. Both the Science Edition covering about 5,000 leading international science journals and the Social Sciences Edition covering about 1,600 leading international social sciences journals are available. NextBio NextBio is a search engine that encourages users to explore genes, pathways, diseases and compounds across curated data. Users can also search thousands of public microarray, mutation and phenotypic studies. With free registration, you can import and correlate an unlimited amount of your own private data if it is made public to the community, save study results as bookmarks and forward them to colleagues, create your own user profile, and research projects and publications. NLM Gateway - (Searches multiple NLM databases) The NLM Gateway provides a single search interface for multiple NLM resources, including MEDLINE/PubMed, the NLM Catalog, a variety of consumer health and toxicology resources, OMIM, and more. It also includes abstracts from HIV/AIDS, Health Services Research, and Space Life Sciences meetings. OMIM: Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man OMIM is a catalog of human genes and genetic disorders. The database contains textual information and references, and incorporates copious links to literature references, sequence records, maps, and related databases. OMIM is authored and edited by Dr. Victor A. McKusick and his colleagues at Johns Hopkins and elsewhere, and developed for the World Wide Web by NCBI, the National Center for Biotechnology Information. ProQuest Dissertations & Theses ProQuest Dissertations & Theses indexes doctoral dissertations in all disciplines which were completed at accredited North American colleges and universities, and some foreign universities. This database includes abstracts only for dissertations completed since 1980, and can be searched by author, discipline, subject keywords, and institution. PubChem PubChem is the NIH's Small Molecule Repository. Entrez, NCBI's search and retrieval system, links the small molecules in the repository to their biological functions and to the macromolecules with which they interact. PubChem also provides a fast chemical structure similarity search tool. There are three databases within PubChem: PubChem Substance, PubChem Compound, and PubChem BioAssay. Science Careers From the American Association for the Advancement of Science, Science Careers is an integrated online resource covering scientific training, career development, and the science job market. It provides access to thousands of articles from Science's Next Wave, daily updates to job postings, career advice articles, graduate program information, meetings and event information, funding opportunities on GrantsNet, and a Career Forum where scientists can get free advice about career-related issues. Science.gov Science.gov searches US government databases and websites to retrieve documents such as technical reports, guidelines and data that may not have been published in journal articles or indexed in other databases. Search across a broad range of agencies or use the Advanced Search to specify which information sources to search. ScienceDirect ScienceDirect offers a journal collection of over 2500 titles and a growing collection of ebooks. Science's STKE: Signal Transduction Knowledge Environment Science's STKE is an integrated online collection that includes original content; access to information on signal transduction published in a range of journals as well as on the World Wide Web; and community online forums. Published by the editors of Science and Stanford University's HighWire Press, STKE is designed to piece together insights from the discipline of biological signal transduction research. Its editors refer to STKE's "Knowledge Environment" as a new generation of online scientific publications. SciFinder Scholar - (Available on-campus only) SciFinder Scholar is a premier chemistry bibliographic and reference research tool. Published by the American Chemical Society (ACS), SciFinder Scholar includes the Chemical Abstracts Service [CAS] bibliographic reference database. It also incorporates the CAS substance database, the CASREACT database, and the SciFinder Substructure Module, and can be searched by substance identifier, chemical structure, and chemical reaction. Springer Protocols - (Methods in Molecular Biology/Methods in Molecular Medicine) Springer Protocols is a searchable database of all protocols published in Methods in Molecular Biology , Methods in Molecular Medicine, Methods in Biotechnology, Methods in Pharmacology and Toxicology, and Neuromethods. Springer Protocols is the largest subscription-based electronic database of reproducible laboratory protocols in the Life and Biomedical Sciences. TOXLINE - Toxicology Literature Online TOXLINE provides bibliographic information covering the biochemical, pharmacological, physiological, and toxicological effects of drugs and other chemicals. It contains over 3 million bibliographic citations, most with abstracts and/or indexing terms and CAS Registry Numbers. TOXLINE references are drawn from PubMed, as well as specialized journals, technical reports, and archival sources. TOXNET - Toxicology Data Network TOXNET (TOXicology Data NETwork) provides integrated online searching of over a dozen databases covering toxicology, hazardous chemicals, environmental health, and related areas. It can be used to locate toxicology data, literature references, and toxic release information on particular chemicals as well as to search to identify chemicals that cause specific effects. ToxSeek ToxSeek is a meta-search and clustering engine provided by the National Library of Medicine for over 50 environmental health and toxicology information resources including the NLM, NIH, CDC, EPA, FDA, the World Health Organization, and the National Safety Council (NSC). VADLO Search for freely available biomedical information on the web. VADLO is particularly useful for locating lab protocols that have been shared online by laboratories and research centers. Web of Science The Web of Science provides web access to the citation indexes of the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI). Included are Science Citation Index Expanded, Social Sciences Citation Index, and Arts & Humanities Citation Index. |
